⭐ SUNDAY WORSHIP

Come as you are . . .

for informal, family worship at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday. We are a friendly, multi-generational community of faith.

We invite all who seek to know and love God to join us on Sunday mornings and to help us to spread God’s vision of love, peace and justice in our community. We hope you will feel God’s presence at St. John’s.

You may also join our in-person Worship Service online. Once you are subscribed to our Sunday Bulletin, you will receive it as an email every Saturday morning. It will include the zoom link for the Worship Service, along with links for the order of service that always includes announcements of future events. For more information about our online worship service, see Zoom @ S J.

When you arrive…

We’ll be there to greet you. As you approach the Sanctuary from the Narthex (the lobby), an usher will offer you that week’s Sunday Bulletin with the order of service.

Sit anywhere you like.

Each Sunday, after the opening music, we announce news important to our church community, followed by the Call to Worship, when we prepare our hearts for worship. Other elements of the service that involve community participation include the Passing of the Peace: a time we are reminded of the grace and peace given to us by God by saying, 'The peace of Christ be with you’ and responding with ‘and also with you.' Later in the service, in the Prayers of the People, those attending (either in-person or by zoom) are invited to share joys and concerns, observing both personal and global needs.

At St. John’s, we believe many forms of music enhance our worship time. Sunday morning music may include songs from the Presbyterian Hymnal, choral music, Southern spirituals, and original compositions. Congregational singing may be accompanied by piano, the Brombaugh pipe organ, the St. John’s Choir, the Bell Choir, a chamber ensemble, a dixieland band or by guest instrumental or vocal musicians.

On many Sundays, there will be an opportunity for a ‘Simple Gospel’ which gives children and youth a special time of their own within the service. If you have children and youth, they are often invited to come forward to participate at this time. Following the Simple Gospel, the children and youth leave to attend classes to learn more about God, with the youth also learning how to be leaders in the faith and what it means to be a Christian in today’s changing world. The weekly sermon is offered right after the children and youth leave for their programs. Transcripts of selected Sermons are available on our website.

Communion is observed on the first Sunday of each month and all are invited to participate. Children and youth return in time to join the congregation for communion in the Sanctuary.

Following worship is our Coffee Fellowship, a wonderful time to get hydrated, nourished, and to share our lives with one another. On those Sundays, when an Adult Forum is offered, it will begin around 11:40 a.m. in the Fireside Room. The Adult Forums address themes related to worship and to local, national and international issues that affect our community. Each Sunday, we accept nonperishable food items to stock our food closet for sharing with the homeless. Please see an usher, if you have food items to donate.
