A Glimpse of Paul Hindemith on Sunday, August 3, 4pm
The August edition of the first Sunday concert series explores music by the 20th century German composer Paul Hindemith on August 3, 4pm at University Lutheran Chapel, 2425 College Avenue, Berkeley.
Das Marienleben sets to music the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke, bringing profound devotion and intimacy to his interpretation of the life of Mary the mother of Jesus. First performed in the 1923 Bauhaus exhibit of Weimar Germany, and then revised again in the 1940’s, it is a historic epic of modern storytelling with a very dynamic piano part. Elysha Massatt will be performing the first seven of these songs, joined by our own renowned Evangeline Wolfe on piano.
The program will also feature more works by Hindemith, including a cello sonata performed by John Ott, some dreamy works for piano, and vocal trios and quartets with Resmiranda Vocal Ensemble.

Known for her delicate layering techniques, Julia Oversloot newest collection captures the fleeting beauty of light, where color flows, and nature breathes on paper, in every brushstroke – an immersive experience into Julia’s vibrant world.
