
MINISTER OF MUSIC
Todd is an ordained Presbyterian minister, having earned his M. Div. from San Francisco Theological Seminary in California, and B.A. in music education from Trenton State College in New Jersey. A percussionist, composer, arranger, conductor, teacher, and vocalist, he is comfortable in many styles including early music, classical, jazz, and rock. Noted teachers include Tony DeNicola (Harry James Orchestra), Hy Frank (Vaudeville), Cloyd Duff (Cleveland Symphony), Lloyd Pfautsch (Southern Methodist University), and Alice Parker (Robert Shaw Chorale).
Todd joined the staff of St. John’s in the summer of 2007, having served for a decade at Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church in San Francisco as the Director of Liturgical Music. For 21 years, he taught music and was the choirmaster at Stuart Hall for Boys in San Francisco. For the first decade of its existence, he was the music director of San Francisco Renaissance Voices. Alongside his work at St. John’s, he is currently the Associate Artistic Director of the San Francisco Boys Chorus.
As a composer, Todd has been commissioned by the San Francisco School of the Arts, First Lutheran Church, Palo Alto, Lakeside Presbyterian Church, San Francisco, San Francisco Boys Chorus, St. Mary the Virgin, San Francisco, and private individuals. His arrangements and compositions have been performed in Asia, Europe, and the United States, and on local programs sponsored by San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Fleet Week Association, the San Francisco Boys Chorus Handbells, and many others, including St. John’s. Todd is a member of San Francisco Presbytery, ASCAP, Early Music America, and American Choral Directors Association.
