Christmas Pageant

An Invitation to all children and youth to share the wonder of Christmas 2015

Welcome to Bethlehem
A traditional Christmas pageant with a few surprises

Familiar carols plus contemporary music selected by the participants. See dancing jingle bells, Mary, Joseph, shepherds, sheep, wise persons, angles, a new baby! A cast of twenty plus music by piano, trumpet and cello.

Early call for Christmas Pageant 2015 participants -The time has come for all children and youth of St. John’s from babies to teens to begin preparation for our 2015 Christmas Pageant, to be presented in the worship service of Dec. 13. We need people to sing, dance, play instruments and take the roles of people of the Bible and people of today. We need our very youngest members to be angels and sheep. Friends are invited to join us. We can add cast members at any time up to the performance day. Parents and youth please talk to Fred Harvey or Pastor Karen to confirm participation.

We begin preparation with a Rehearsal Party for all ages from Saturday Nov.14, 6 pm. In addition to planning and rehearsal we’ll have pizza for dinner, snacks, and play games.

Some rehearsing during Church School and Youth Ministry meetings on Sundays, Nov. 15,  22, 29 and Dec. 6.

Stage rehearsal and cast party, Friday, Dec. 12 in the sanctuary 6 to 8:30 pm with pizza and ending with ice cream.

Arrive at St. John’s at 8:45 am on Sunday, Dec.13 for costumes and final preparation.

Written, directed and produced by the St. John’s community, the Christmas pageant is a time to share the story of Jesus’ birth in a way that is unique for a 21st century audience. For example, in 2011 we hoped that Jesus would “occupy” our hearts, as we rewrote the words to Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You,” Beyonce’s “Halo” and Adele’s “Rolling in the deep” to reflect how because of Jesus’ birth, we can remember the love that God has for us, how Mary’s “halo” inspired Joseph to take a big risk in faith and love and how the wise men “rolled” throughout the desert spreading the good news of Christ birth.

We hope you will join us for this year’s pageant (and if you are in k-12th grade, participate,) in telling the story of how God loved us so much, that God sent God’s only son to join us on earth, and to bring us into a closer relationship with God and each other.
