⭐ SUNDAY MUSIC

The St. John’s Music Ministry enables church and community members to express and share their faith through music during Sunday worship and special concerts. As the music team prepares the music for each service, they enjoy a special fellowship and closeness through the sharing of music and leading worship in the church.

On any given Sunday, you might hear the choir sing a Renaissance motet, an Orthodox chant, a contemporary introit, a Kenyan Kyrie, or a Gospel anthem.  The voices might be accompanied, by the Brombaugh pipe organ, piano, congas, violin, oboe, bell choir, or a capella. Some of the Bay Area’s finest singers lead the sections of the choir, and amateurs have the opportunity to learn to read music and enjoy fellowship while practicing the spiritual discipline of making music.

Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings in the Sanctuary, from 7:30-9:00.  On most Sunday mornings during the academic year, choir meets at 9:00 a.m. to rehearse for the 10:00 a.m. worship service.

New members are always welcome to join the choir.

BELL CHOIR

The St. John’s bell choir goes back several decades, to the days when Dick Coulter was the music director.  From the groups under his leadership emerged several other bell choirs, including internationally known Sonos.  In the past decade, the group has been resurrected with some of the old members and some new ones. The Schulmerich bells themselves are reconditioned, with new pads and other equipment.

Bell choir rehearses during the academic year twice a month, usually on the first and third Sundays, after worship, 11:30-12:30.  Both beginners and seasoned ringers are welcome to join.
