Chocolate Sunday

The first Sunday of the month is Chocolate Sunday! St. John's Mission and Justice Committee is proud to offer delicious fairly traded products, supporting small-scale farmers across the world. Farmers earn a fair price for their products, have access to affordable credit, and can invest in education, healthcare, and sustainable agriculture, enabling them to build a better future for their families.  All organic – all fair trade!

See more about this exciting story here:http://www.equalexchange.coop/farmer-partners

This is not a fundraiser for the church; we have decided to offer all these products at the lowest prices possible to members and friends the St. John's community ; the more frequently we choose these exquisitely prepared products, the greater our participation in a truly just economic system. The nonprofit group Equal Exchange provides most of what we offer: http://interfaith.equalexchange.com/

Here are some examples:

Organic Hot Cocoa Mix

12oz.
Case Size: 6 / 12oz cans

Our delicious fairly traded organic hot cocoa has a rich chocolatey flavor that children and adults will love. Easy to make with hot water -- the milk is in the mix! This product helps farmers in 3 countries -- the organic cocoa is from small-scale farmers in the Dominican Republic, the organic sugar is fairly traded from farmer cooperatives in Paraguay, and the organic milk powder from U.S. dairy cooperatives.

Organic Ethiopian Coffee,

12 ounce bag

We are proud to introduce this, our first-ever offering from the birthplace of coffee, Ethiopia. Grown in the southern state of Sidamo, this exotic and complex coffee has heavy body, gentle acidity and hints of vanilla, black pepper and raspberry, and lives up to Ethiopian coffee’s well-deserved reputation for excellence.

Organic Dried Sweetened Cranberries

Whole, juicy organic berries are sliced, infused with organic sugar, and then slowly kiln-dried to preserve every last bit of flavor. The cranberries’ tartness is offset but not overpowered by sweetness. High in antioxidants, cranberries are also known for their anti-bacterial properties. Delicious by themselves, dried cranberries are also a great alternative to raisins in cookies and many other recipes, or added to a salad. Our very first cranberries were grown with care by the Mann family on their small farm in southeastern Massachusetts.
