March 2016

Luke 19 36As he rode along,
people kept spreading their cloaks on the road.

37As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, 38saying, “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!” 39Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” 40He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.”

I love this line from Jesus, “If these were quiet, the stones would shout out.” It communicates an understanding that built within Creation itself is the truth of God’s justice and grace.  It cannot be blocked or stamped out — the truth will be known one way or another.  As we move toward Easter, can we hear the old, old story anew, with all its power.  I truly believe the Gospel is the greatest story every told, with a depth of importance and truth for our lives that it had to happen, had to be told and retold.  Consider the vision and foresight of Jesus, who wouldn’t go hide nor back down, nor compromise his love with the temptation of violence.  He is going to Jerusalem and we cheer him on, grateful and filled with the grace of having met him.  Come Lord, Jesus.
