About

Through God’s guidance, the prompting of the Holy Spirit and the example of Jesus Christ, we at St. John’s feel called to serve God locally, nationally and globally. We are also a church that takes leade
rship on peace and justice issues, the More Light movement for gay and lesbian Christians, and programs for the homeless.
St. John’s is a true presence in Berkeley, socially, educationally, artistically, and spiritually committed to our community. More than three dozen community groups gather at our facility for meetings, concerts and banquets. Combined with regular church activities, it virtually makes St. John’s an all-day, everyday operation.

Joining the St. John’s Community

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:12

New member classes are held throughout the year and give you the chance to ask questions and discover what life is like at St. John’s. You may join our fellowship in any of three ways:

  • Profession of Faith (for those making a first time declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior)
  • Reaffirmation of Faith (for those who have made a commitment to Jesus and have been baptized but do not have a current church membership)
  • Letter of Transfer (for those who wish to transfer their membership from another church)

All new members will be introduced and presented to the congregation at a Sunday worship service soon after the class. As a group, new members will be asked to affirm their faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to membership in St. John’s Presbyterian Church.
