The
official close of St. John’s 3-year Capital
Campaign was March 2010. Thank you heartily, all contributors! And to those
with pledges outstanding, this is a gentle nudge — in consideration of
distress
caused by the economic travail of recent times — to please submit your
gifts as
soon as you are able. You
can read
about the status of the Campaign in the current Annual Report.

Women’s
Bible Study, Thursday, May 13, 2010, noon
to 2:00pm
Lesson
7: “God’s
Concern for Justice: The Cities of Refuge.” Read Joshua
20:1-9;
21:13-41, in which scripture shows us that justice is a mandate from
God for
all who wish to live faithful lives. We’ll learn about “asylum cities,”
and
discuss jealousy and revenge. Bring your lunch and your Bible.
Starting
next September! “Journeys Through Revelation:
Apocalyptic Hope for Today.” You are invited to
join us at Women’s
Bible Study to study about Revelation. I
hope there are some
of you who are available in the daytime to come for this excellent
study.
If you are unable to be with us, but would like to study the Horizons
material
on your own, please let me know so that I can include you in the order
for
materials. Here is the description of the study:
In
recent years, an
enormous prophesy industry has marketed frightening images and
interpretations
of the book of Revelation, leaving many Christians
intimidated by this
amazing, often misunderstood book. Although brimming with
mysterious
symbolism, Revelation ultimately is a book of hope
that sustains those
who are oppressed. In the nine lessons of this study we will
be lead to a
renewed creation in which God comes to live with us on earth.
This
hope-filled vision speaks to us in the midst of the urgent crises of
our
day. In a time when all creation stands at a turning point,
Revelation
can help guide the choices we make as we seek to live into the renewal
that God
promises for our world.

Wedding
Bells!
Carrie
(Caroline) LeFeber and
Elliott Schneider would like to announce their wedding here at St.
John's on July
10, 2010, at 3:30pm. They would be honored and delighted if
all of their
dear friends in this congregation would join them as they begin their
married
life! The ceremony will be followed by a patio reception with
punch and
hors d'oeuvres.

What to
do if you think you’re having a heart attack
while you are alone? Recommended,
tested
procedure: cough CPR. If you
suddenly experience severe pain in your
chest which starts to radiate out into
your arm and up into your jaw, and if you begin to
feel faint, you may
have as little as
10 seconds before losing consciousness. However,
you can help yourself by coughing
repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep
breath should be taken before each cough, and
the cough must be deep and
prolonged, as that which produces sputum from
deep inside the chest. A
breath and a cough must
be repeated about every two seconds without let up until
help arrives, or until
the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep
breaths get oxygen into lungs and coughing
movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The
squeezing pressure on
the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack
victims
can get to a hospital. Pass it on!
